We revisited the listings in the earlier version of this article, checked their current websites, and corrected the links and published contact details. Tidewater now lists Debert, Nova Scotia, so it was moved to our Nova Scotia directory. Eden Kennels was moved here from our Ottawa article because it is in Trout Creek. Baileymist is linked through a working breeder directory, and several locations and phone numbers were corrected.

Sandra Pink’s In The Pink program describes Golden Retrievers raised as family members and publishes its litter information online. Its current contact page lists a new number for calls and texts. Confirm the visit location and request the records for the proposed sire and dam.

Edie Ward’s Baileymist program remains listed in the For the Love of Purebred Dogs breeder directory. Its former website did not provide a usable breeder page when checked, so the link below goes to the directory. Contact Edie to confirm whether the program has current breeding plans.

Goldnote publishes its puppy contact process as well as boarding and daycare services. Puppy inquiries start through the contact form and questionnaire. Its site specifies feeding and lifestyle conditions for puppy placement; read those requirements and the contract before applying.

What to check before choosing a breeder

The Golden Retriever Club of Canada’s guide to choosing a breeder recommends examining health certifications, the contract, and how puppies are raised. Use these questions when contacting a program:

  • Can you provide hip, elbow, eye, and heart clearance records for both parents, with their registered names?
  • Where are the puppies raised, and can I arrange a visit to meet the mother and see their living conditions?
  • How are puppies socialized, and how do you match them with families?
  • May I read the contract, health guarantee, deposit terms, and return policy before paying?
  • What veterinary records and support come with a puppy?

A working website and a breeder’s own claims do not independently establish the quality of a breeding program. Compare the documents, ask follow-up questions, and take your time before making a commitment.
