Rescuing dogs can be a mix of sadness and relief. It’s heartbreaking to see so many dogs in distress, abandoned and alone. At the same time, it’s a joy to know that rescued dogs have a chance at a happy life.
Joe Kirk demonstrated this perfectly when he saved a dog from euthanasia. This dog’s life was turned around by the kindness of one person, showing the impact that caring individuals can have. This story sheds light on the emotions and efforts involved in rescuing animals and giving them a second chance.
A Beagle Who Can’t Contain His Joy

Gregory, the Beagle, was just a couple of days away from being euthanized. Joe Kirk stepped in at the right time. He and his wife, Schenley, run Hound Rescue and Animal Sanctuary in Findlay, Ohio. Their non-profit organization focuses on giving second chances to neglected dogs.
Gregory found a loving family and even a new Beagle sibling. Schenley shared on Facebook, “Gregory is one thankful and appreciative Beagle! He KNOWS he is SAFE!”
Although Gregory has heartworm, he will receive the treatment he needs. His recovery is just one part of his happy transformation. He will now live surrounded by care and compassion. Seeing the joy in this rescued dog’s life is heartwarming. His new journey is a testament to the wonderful work done by Hound Rescue and Animal Sanctuary.
Schenley ended her message with hope: “We will get him healthy and provide him all the love he so deserves and a wonderful future!”
This rescued pup shows how salvation and second chances can lead to happiness for a rescued dog.
Gregory’s New Start

Gregory found himself in the care of the Kirks, who promptly took him to a veterinarian. There, he received treatment for his heartworm disease. After his recovery, Gregory was placed on the adoption list. It didn’t take long before a family expressed their desire to adopt him.
Now in his forever home, Gregory enjoys his days with his new family and his beagle sibling.

Schenley made a heartfelt statement:
“We are often asked how many dogs we have saved. The answer that always comes to mind is, we have saved one more. One more dog is safe and will have all of the love and respect that they are so deserving of. One more dog will be properly fed and receive needed veterinary care. One more dog will have a loving forever home. There is no better feeling and nothing in life that is more fulfilling.”
Gregory’s story reminds us that a little kindness can make a big difference. Every rescued dog deserves care, attention, and a loving family. With his medical problems behind him, Gregory now enjoys a happy, healthy life. The effort of rescuing dogs like Gregory shows that rescuing stray animals and providing them a forever home is truly rewarding.
